About Makunda Christian Hospital

Founded in 1987, Makunda Christian Leprosy & General Hospital has been a beacon of hope and healing in Assam, providing compassionate healthcare services to all sections of society regardless of caste, creed, or economic status.

Located in the Kumarikata region of Assam, our hospital began as a small leprosy treatment center and has grown into a 150-bed multidisciplinary general hospital. We serve a population of over 500,000 people across Assam and neighboring states, with a special commitment to marginalized communities.

Our Journey Through The Years

1987

Hospital founded as a 20-bed leprosy treatment center by Dr. R.K. Singh and missionary nurses from the Christian Medical Association of India.

1995

Expanded to include general medicine and pediatrics services. Received recognition from the Government of Assam as a primary healthcare center.

2003

Added surgical department and maternity wing. Launched community health outreach program reaching 50 remote villages.

2012

Upgraded to 150-bed hospital with modern diagnostic facilities. Established specialized leprosy rehabilitation center with physical therapy unit.

2020

Recognized as COVID-19 treatment center by Assam Health Department. Treated over 1,200 COVID patients during the pandemic.

2023

Launched telemedicine services connecting remote villages with specialist doctors. Installed solar power system for sustainable energy.

General visiting hours are from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM daily. For critical care patients, immediate family members may visit during designated hours in the morning (10:00 AM - 11:00 AM) and evening (6:00 PM - 7:00 PM) with prior permission. We restrict visitors to 2 per patient at a time to ensure patient rest and infection control.

Yes, leprosy diagnosis and multidrug therapy (MDT) are provided completely free of charge under the National Leprosy Eradication Programme (NLEP). This includes all medications, dressings, and basic investigations. For patients requiring hospitalization or surgery, we have subsidized rates based on economic status, and no one is denied treatment due to inability to pay.

We accept cash, debit/credit cards (Visa, MasterCard, RuPay), UPI payments (Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm), and bank transfers. We are also empaneled with several insurance providers including New India Assurance, Oriental Insurance, and Star Health. For government health schemes like Ayushman Bharat, we provide cashless treatment to eligible patients after verification.

Yes, we have 4 ambulances (including 1 advanced life support ambulance) available 24/7. Ambulance services cover up to 50 km radius from the hospital. For emergency calls, ambulance dispatch is immediate. For non-emergency patient transfers, advance booking is recommended. Ambulance charges are based on distance and type of ambulance required.
